Gender Current Situation Porn Stars Clinical Studies A Conspiracy Damage

P1/2

What we do know is children and teens can and do develop compulsive behaviour. (Ryan & Lane1997)

Pornography makes victims of the helpless

Police regard pornography as primary evidence of serious crime.  Collections of such material are psychology important to child abusers.  They rarely get rid of their stash.

(NZ Herald 8.9.97)

There are some indicators- for example, when a person is using pornography.  All pornography is a desensitizer.  Inhibitions are lowered, and people are more likely to see others as sex objects. (Grapevine Magazine 1992)

Pornography is hidden from society

Ted Bundy had progressed from soft porn, at the age of 13 to consuming and acting out hard core pornography.  His double life wa kept so secret that not one of his friends or family suspected he was a serial killer.  The young man who had grown up in an “All American” Christian home had murdered 27 girls and young women. (Dr James Dobson, Focus on the Family)

Pornography is anti-social

When the Nazis took the government of Poland, they flooded the Polish bookstalls with pornography.  The theory was making the individual conscious of only of the need for personal sensation would make the combination of forces very difficult.

Pornography is linked to Crime

In Oklahoma City 1984, over 150 sex orientated businesses in the city closed. The rape rate decreased 26% while the rest of the state increased by 20%.

Michigan State Police (1956-1979) A survey of 38,000 victims of rape revealed 41% occurred immediately after viewing pornography.  Also 77% of boys and 87% of girls were molested in exactly the manner depicted in the pornography.

Pornography ruins families

Dr Victor Cline of the University of Utah studied 225 individuals and discovered a common 4 factor syndrome.

1. Addiction:Like heroin, there is a strong physical/psychological addiction that    requires    the user to need more and add to the experience.  Single-minded    purposefulness creates    tension and stress in their marriage.

2. Escalation: Users need rougher, more mean, more bizzare, more deviant or    even     anisocial to be turned on.  When wives try to placate their husbands by    participating in  bizarre sex fantasies they find, to their dismay, that there is no  end to it.

3. Desensitization: What was at first shocking, awful, disgusting.Taboo- breaking and  repulsive becomes common place.  It becomes legitimized and acceptable.  Eventually it becomes attractive and invited repetition in ones life.  Conscience is seared Voices of caution are disregarded.  The individual becomes desensitized to its potential danger.

4. Acting Out: Men begin to do things they have seen.  An appetite has been  cultivated  and the conscience immobilized.  It seems everyone is doing it.  As  a marriage and family therapist I have the unfortunate opportunity to daily  and constantly see what  sad often tragic outcomes follow when men get involved in  porn. It is a direct attack upon the family and the marriage relationship.
